Young children learn better and faster through play. The aim of the Place in Squares activity is to familiarise pupils with the spatial organisation of space and to understand the concepts of inside and outside. Why not adapt it with favourite animals, objects or characters?
Here, Lucien from Madagascar leads his zebu into the enclosure. For each child, we could imagine putting a car in a garage, a character in his or her house, a tree in a garden, a familiar animal in its habitat. If this first story makes sense to them, it will be easier to understand the more abstract concepts of space, inside and outside.
